Ego vs. Self Esteem

I was listening to Tyler Durden last night and he had an interesting thought that I want to share. He was talking about the difference between Ego and Self Esteem. He suggests that they are opposites, that Ego is something that separates us from each other while Self Esteem brings us together. Ego, according to Tyler, is a construct created by our minds when our Self Esteem gets injured at a young age. It is there to help us logically fit into the world and answer questions that we don't have the answers to. Questions such as who we are, where we are, and where we are going. Self Esteem, on the other hand, is something we are born with. Happiness is a default state of mind! Look at a young child who goes around doing whatever he/she wants to do without fear of judgment. They just do whatever makes them happy. The Ego has not yet been formed within them. What I would suggest is to break the Ego down and discard it, along with anything else that you no longer need to function. This will take a lot of work, patience, and practice, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel in my imagination when I finally rid myself of it. All it does is divide who you think you are with everyone else around you, for better or for worse. Go with the flow of the world, not against it. We are all in this together.

Follow up: In order to get rid of the ego, you HAVE to accept the wound. You HAVE to accept yourself, both the good and the bad. Understand this: The more personal the wound, the more UNIVERSAL the wound. We all go through the same things. Accept what has happened to you and move on.
